A brief history Pan de Vida
We began in February of 1994 with 12 children.
Being located in loaned quarters, our first task was to establish ourselves as a legally viable institution, following all of the government regulations. Besides being something that we considered to be biblical (Rom. 13), we felt it to be in the best interest of all concerned. With our registry in July of 1994, we were able to solicite Tax Deductible Receipts from the Mexican government which were authorized in May of 1995.
During that period, my wife, Elena, and I began to consider more and more our specific mission with these kids.
Education has always been something that we felt was extremely essential to lift people out of the never ending poverty cycle.
As a result, we started a school especially designed for our children with their emotional, social, and physical problems. I might add that this had been attempted by the original founders on a limited, home-school based system. However, we felt the need to provide teachers, classroom space, and include official government certification, as well as give a distinct Christian emphasis.
Since 1996, we have graduated from 5 to 10 primary students each year. In 1998 we graduated our first Jr. High schoolers and have had graduates at that level in each of the following years. In the fall of 1999, we started our 10-12 program with 5 students. In June of 2003, we graduated our first high school class of four.
We have been extremely fortunate with qualified and dedicated teachers who volunteer their time. In 2004 we initiated our four-year teacher education program in order to better our educational process.
